The Wonderful Web 2.0

Most people have no idea what Web 2.0 means or does. But if they are asked if they uploaded numerous photos on Flickr, watched a funny video from YouTube, and invited friends to join Facebook, then they have been the “benefactors” of the runaway success called Web 2.0. These applications would not have been possible if not for the mainstream utilization of this Web browser, which has transformed into the platform of dozens of internet applications.

Nowadays, almost everyone is connected in the planet using the power and reach of the internet. Now a few employees and workers with some payday advance in their pockets would think of buying the latest smart phone with wireless internet capabilities or mini laptops that could be taken anywhere and access emails. Indeed, popular applications such as social networking, video-sharing, and blogging to name a few were developed and evolved from Web 2.0 concepts. What’s more, the beauty of this also lies in allowing web users to retrieve more kinds of information.

The term Web 2.0 is concocted by a writer named Darcy DiNucci in the late 1990s. It simply pertains to the second generation of Web development and design. With the advent and spread of Web 2.0, internet users could access information and communicate better with millions of other users. It started as a mere communication tool but it evolved into other useful tools. Before long, business people and entrepreneurs discovered the marketing benefits of Web 2.0 applications. Web 2.0 suddenly opened up the reach of businesses—from employees to contacts—and the sharing of information that helps increase sales leads became wider in scope. These applications also supported recruitment since potential employees or even clients can submit their profiles and portfolio online, anywhere in the world. Even online applications for cash loans became possible because Web 2.0 platforms have secure information systems.

In addition, these numerous applications acted as a solid frame in strengthening a company’s image. Thus, there are many success stories of startup websites that became global in a few months time. In no time, business-oriented Web 2.0 tools are widely used. One good example is LinkedIn, a social networking site for professional that encourages its users to connect and communicate with other professionals, including making recommendations. Through these sites, entrepreneurs and business owners can easily build business blogs for information dissemination and marketing purposes. All in all, Web 2.0 connects a myriad of people and groups and adds value to everyday life.
