The Year In Review

The year is rapidly coming to a close. Soon, we’ll be celebrating the holiday festivities, school vacation week followed by the excitement of a new year. Now is the time to stop and assess where you are.

We have annual employment appraisals, meetings with financial or tax advisors, even a yearly check up with our physicians. We are accustom to, almost expecting, reviews to keep us informed. This will be a real life appraisal to give you a visual picture of where you are. You will be able to re-evaluate how you are progressing towards your outcomes or goals.

Let’s take a few moments to look back and check out this past year.

LOOK BACK and RE-EVALUATE this past year. Starting with January and moving from month to month, think about each month and what was going on in your life at that time. Flip through journals, day planners or your computer schedule. Take inventory with pen and paper in hand. What did you accomplish? Where were you a little short? What did you do well? What would you do again? What was exciting? Sad? Discouraging? Who did you help? What are you proud of? Who did you love?

LEARN from the full spectrum of events in your life, or the events you label as good and those not so favorable times. Look at how well you did in all areas. What tips do you feel can be used again or in other areas of your life? What would you do or say differently? Where would you risk a little bit more?

LOOK AHEAD. What will you want next year to be like. How do you want to feel about your accomplishments? What do you see yourself accomplishing? What will you improve? What will you learn? What experiences will you share with others? Why did you make changes? What did you learn about yourself?

The time to start planning 2010’s year in review is today. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail
