The cause of pre-diabetes: Pre-diabetes occurs when the body's blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not necessarily high enough for a type 2 diagnosis. There are approximately 50 million Americans who have pre-diabetes.

In addition to knowing the causes of diabetes please be aware that there are myths surrounding the disease. Some believe that consuming too much sugar or sweet snacks will lead to diabetes but this is untrue. Actually, people with the disease can usually continue to eat sweets if they are part of a controlled diet plan. Some actually believe that diabetes is contagious-this too is false. Don't pay attention to idle talk about diabetes either. Have your blood tested yearly along with an annual checkup and do your best to stay healthy.
