The Depression Test

Usually a psychological test by filling up a questionnaire and grading the answers is done to determine the condition. A lot of sites have such questionnaires designed by prominent psychiatrists available which you can download for self testing but you must remember that the results are not a diagnosis but an indication of whether or not you should seek professional help.

The following is a sample of the common questions used in the test:

* Do you feel sad and guilty?
* Do you feel that you lack capability?
* Whether you have experienced any changes in weight and appetite?
* Do you feel a loss of energy?
* Do you keep having thoughts of suicide and death?
* Have you lost interest in the activities which you used to enjoy?

The above test can also be taken keeping in mind somebody that you suspect might be suffering from depression.

In recent times a biomarker for depression has been found which would result in quickly identifying patients suffering from depression with a lab test and also in finding out whether a particular anti depressant is working or not.

Another way of testing for possible depression is brain mapping which may be helpful in determining any genetic abnormalities.

Timely detection and noticing of symptoms by friends and relatives can save a person's life and also all the other lives that are attached to him/her like the spouse, children.
