If it''s a short stay somewhere in Europe that you want, a place like Amsterdam could be perfect. While it may have a certain reputation, the city''s pretty waterways and pedestrianised zones, themselves filled with canal boats and street entertainers, show that there''s much more to this town than the elements which make it popular for stag nights and student parties. Fine art is well represented here, as displayed through the copious collections of Dutch Masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Hals, whose work can all be found in the city''s main exhibition space, the Rijksmuseum. Alternatively, the Van Gogh Museum houses much of the painter''s iconic output, and is certainly worth paying a visit to if you don''t mind the intimidating queues. Much of what is special about this city is not in the museums, but is instead exhibited in the various schools of architecture to be found around the town, but perhaps a cheap flight to Bruges would be a better bet for satisfying an interest in Northern European urban design throughout the centuries. Bruges'' very special status is summed up in the fact that it is a protected World Heritage site, and upon arrival it becomes easy to see why. With such attractions as medieval-period cathedrals, one of which contains a vial of what historically believed to be Christ''s blood, and picture-book canals down which you can take extensive boat trips, this place is truly something else. If you would rather spend a long weekend in a slightly less familiar but not-too-distant location, then Moscow could be a great place to visit. Such recognisable sights as the domes of St Basil''s Cathedral, with its towering spires and onion-shaped domes, represent the kind of East-West cultural combination that is indicative of the city. When you succeed in finding a cheap flight to Moscow, you may well be pleasantly surprised by how affordable the cost of living is in this city. Despite being as architecturally grand as Berlin, and as culturally rich as Paris, you''ll find it''s a place where you won''t necessarily have to spend so much as some of these other major European capitals. While many people feel that a holiday has to be planned intricately and well in advance, the wealth of cheap flight deals that you can currently get hold of have helped change that fact, and thanks to their incredibly low rates, travel agents will be able to sort you out with something that won''t completely break the bank.
