The History Of Etv Urdu

ETV Urdu is part of the ETV group of channels that mainly focuses in bringing back India’s regional culture and heritage through its regional specific channels. ETV Urdu is owned by ETV network and is also broadcast in Pakistan and other parts of the world and throughout the country. The media channel is owned by the Media baron Ch. Ramonji Rao and was launched on the 15th of August 2001. This was the first channel launched by ETV that that focused primarily on the culturally rich language.

ETV was immediate to identify the need for a specific channel that specifically showcased serials and shows that was in rich Urdu language. The channels viewership has only grown through the years, not only in various parts of the country but also world wide. The channel is also broadcast in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UK, UAE, Pakistan and the US. Even those who love the language without understanding it perfectly well love to watch this channel. Some of the main programming that the channel showcases are game shows, music shows (ghazals), poetry shows, dramas, religious and even news shows which make up for a complete infotainment channel. The shows and entertainment aspects that air on this channel take into consideration the huge Urdu speaking population of the country, their lifestyles, their problems etc.

Although the channel was Ramonji Rao’s baby, he launched it with the help of a few media big wig personalities like Shama Zaidi and Aslam Farshori who were etv Urdu’s advisors and senior heads. Although starting off with a channel that was purely Urdu was a bit difficult and it was even known that the government would not burn its fingers in this direction, it was Ramonji Rao’s persistence and far sightedness that bought about the birth of this channel. Etv Urdu is now a channel that is watched world wide by every Urdu speaking person irrespective of their cultural and national backgrounds.

Ever since August 15th 2005 the channel has been increasing its slot times for news hours and is now almost a 24 hour new channel. A few news slots like Khabarnama, Khaas Baat, Aalami Manar etc are all news channels that cater to different sections of news like worldwide news, local news, current issues, personal issues and even Muslim and Urdu related issues. Unlike common misbeliefs this is not an Islamic channel although there are a few Islamic programs, particularly so because the channel is very famous with Muslims and the Urdu speaking crowd. The channels centre is based in Hyderabad where it enjoys the maximum viewership.
