The Most Contentious Printed Leaflets Ever
The printed leaflet caused controversy when Poles and Catholics began to complain about the flyer to the Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality (ISCRE) in the end the Advertising Standards Authority banned the leaflet saying it was offensive. The aim of this leaflet was not meant to offend people it was simply meant to generate awareness of a club night. It was distributed to promote a night called Berserk at Club Fire & Ice in Ipswich. Although the leaflet was banned the club got a lot of promotion in the national press and on many websites. You know what they say no PR is bad PR. If you don’t think offending some people’s religious beliefs is bad enough perhaps you will think promoting intercourse to teenagers is unacceptable. A leaflet by the NHS was printed stating school kids have the right to an enjoyable sex life with regular activity being good for their cardiovascular health. The messaging used on the leaflet said “an orgasm a day keeps the doctor away”. Other recommendations mentioned were health experts recommend 30 minutes physical activity 3 times a week “What about sex or masturbation twice a week?” One of the authors of the leaflet said the message was meant to put people off having sex until they were sure they would enjoy it, however most adults who saw the leaflet did not agree with what it was promoting. Before you release any advertising which may be interpreted in the wrong way do a bit of research to ensure you will not offend people. Although using religious figures in a litigious way is not the best way to drum up a large reaction, controversy and crazy designs in your leaflet printing can get your business noticed.
