The Power Of Using Rss Feeds On Your Site

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. A good use for RSS is to promote your website, you can explain to people the details of your site and good reasons why they should visit. If you write articles, then a RSS feed can be used to promote your articles and draw visitors to your site.

To make an RSS feed, you could use a program like feededit, this is a free utility that you can download from www.feededit.com, it is simple to use and has it's own help section. Alternatively, you could use the code shown below. Replace the 'your title', 'your url' etc with your own details. Replace '(' and ')' with ''

(?xml version="1.0" ?)
(rss version="2.0")

(channel)

(title>your title goes hereyour description goes herehttp://your-url.com
(title>title of your itemdescription of your itemhttp://your-url.com/yourpage.html)

It is a good idea to validate your RSS feed before you publish it, in case you have made any mistakes in the editing. You could go to www.feedvalidator.org, enter the URL of your RSS feed and an instant check will be done. You now need to advertise your RSS feed, and one way of doing this is to submit your feed to news readers and aggregators. Some of the popular aggregators are; newsgator, xfruits, rssowl, rssreader and allrss.

MyYahoo has become a popular web page, with 30 million people currently using it. You can add a my.yahoo button to your website, and when someone clicks on it, they can add your RSS feed to their my.yahoo page. Having new RSS feeds on your website each week will improve your search engine ranking, as search engines love fresh content. Also, as people subscribe to your RSS feed, this will create back-links to your site which will provide you with free traffic.
