There Are More Uses For A Mobile Phone Than You Might Think
My daughter, like most teens nowadays, is surgically connected to her mobile phone. She brings it everywhere she goes, as well as the loo, to ensure that she doesn't miss a single incoming sms. Many times, it seems to me that her every action depends on directions acquired via text messages. Assuming I did not know better, I would believe that aliens were controlling her, but no, it is just her network of friends. She will be slouching on the lounger on a Sunday afternoon in a worn old pair of shorts and t-shirt, apparently watching television, when all of a sudden her phone will chime. Super fast she's off the couch and up the staircase to her room. In record time, she is back again, outfitted to the nines and wearing that icky blue eye shadow I forbade her to use as it makes her resemble a streetwalker, pleading to be driven to the mall. I've learned to translate the signals from my daughter's mobile phone like a mind reader. I consider it my duty as her mom and social taxi cab facility to find out what is going on in her life and react accordingly. In the event that I'm going to give my authorisation, or not, as is frequently the situation, then I wish to have prior notice regarding precisely what she is about to require of me, and thus I employ her phone to achieve this. Even though it's not below me to make use of all the methods in my toolbox to keep a pace ahead of my clever and precocious girl, I will not stoop to check her cell phone while she is out of the room. Besides, I don't actually have to see her communications; I'm so good, as I can identify just what she is contemplating just from her body language and the way her fingers fly across the keys. My spouse and I pondered long and hard before giving our youngsters cell phones, particularly my daughter because she's got the typical teenage predilection for such a thing, but we eventually determined that it was inevitable. I enjoy having the ability to get in touch with my boy, who's 11, whenever he's apart from me and furthermore having the reassurance that arises from knowing he is able to get in touch with me in case he needs me. My daughter, on the other hand, is another kettle of fish and I have to keep the girl's cell phone usage under control. However, I do find her communications with her mobile to be an incredibly helpful indication of what she is going to do which in turn truly helps when you've got an unpredictable and capricious teenager around.
