Who would have ever guessed just a few short years ago that so many Americans would be unemployed, living without health insurance or stuck with paying for their own health care from their paycheck. This might work in the occasional doctor office visit or a prescription here and there, but just will not survive any long term time frame, especially if it is coming out of the person's empty pockets.

If you are paying for the hospital bill with your own money, you are pretty much at the mercy of the hospital, they will usually extend credit, but you will end up paying the entire bill regardless of how unreasonable some of the charges are. This is where have a health insurance company on your side is a great way to fight these unreasonable charges, some of which are very over the top of what is considered unacceptable and some times the insurance company will refuse to pay under those circumstances.

With health insurance, you are pretty much guaranteed care and treatment at any medical facility. However there is a downside in that this can be a slippery slope that you are not prepared for. Meaning that you will not be denied care, but the health insurance could refuse to pay for any care they deem unnecessary based on their own guidelines. Put another way, you will be seen by health care professionals, but there is no guarantee that the insurance company will pay their part of the bill.

Anytime that a person has health insurance, they are much safer than someone who does not have insurance. Having health insurance almost always ensures that a person's personal finances and all of their life's efforts are protected. The common denominator in many cancer treatments is that they can easily reach into the thousands of dollars per session and other procedures that cost even more out of a patients pocket. Even when the discrimination against no insurance factor is removed, the bills are just plain and simply overwhelming and all nearly impossible to repay, so the collectors place liens against anything of value that has the patients name attached to it.

A difficult enough situation is without doubt a serious health crisis that could possibility leave the person broke when the process is complete. Keep in mind that this doesn't have to happen to you or anyone you know, if you just keep a active health insurance policy up to date and valid at all times for you and your family, so no one will have to face the unthinkable at the worse possible time.
