There is no shortage of ways to come up with a great fundraising idea. These methods include talking to charities and non profit organizations, searching online and of course, the members of your own group can be a valuable source of information.
Talking to your fellow members in your own organization is probably the best way to start when looking for novel fundraising ideas. You can call everyone together for a group meeting and put all of your heads together to come up with some great fundraising ideas. Members of your group may have talents or services which they can offer as part of a fundraising effort, or perhaps know someone who does. This is also a good way to find a property or other location to hold your fundraiser. A group meeting is by far the best forum in which to discuss planning a fundraiser and finding fundraising ideas - when everyone in the group is included in this decision making process, they will all have a sense of ownership in the final product. Once an idea has been agreed upon by the group, assignments can be parceled out and everyone in the group can get working to make a successful event.
The world wide web is another great source for fundraising ideas. There are a multitude of fundraising-related sites online, many of which contain great ideas for your group. There are even many ways which you can use to put on a fundraiser, even if your budget is zero!
While some groups have the cash on hand to either purchase items for a fundraiser or produce items for an arts and crafts fair fundraiser, your group may not be one of them. If this is the situation your group is in, then looking online for fundraising ideas is a good bet.
Another way you can find ideas for a unique fundraiser is by talking to other organizations. Charitable organizations often hold golf tournaments and events that are fun and successful in raising large amounts of money. When you talk to other organizations, they are willing to share their ideas and ways that successfully worked for them.
Your own local newspaper may also be a good source of fundraising ideas. If there are organizations in your area holding fundraisers, think about how they went about their own fundraiser - it may be a viable option for your group as well. It's OK to use the same sort of fundraiser as another group - these events are not copyrighted.
One of the most consistently successful types of fundraiser is golf tournaments. This of course means that a golf course will need to give you permission to have your event there and offering a special rate for eventgoers, with this extra money going to the charity. Golfers can compete for a trophy and will usually pay a fee to sign up. These events tend to do very well, but can take a lot of advance planning.
The next time you are coming up short on fundraising ideas for your group, talk to other charities, search the web and get together for a brainstorming session to find some great ideas for your next fundraiser.
