There has been a bit of discussion about digital readers these days, from the start of the Sony reader, to the date that Oprah made the Amazon Kindle a well known name. With the introduction of this school year ebook texts are becoming everyday. The Kindle DX is Amazons latest digital reader and it has lots of interesting functions. Amazon's DX will be a challenger in the etextbook competition. The bigger display and higher resolution will enhance the browsing of e textbooks. With native PDF support and the capability to display charts and graphs with an automatically adjusting display the DX is well suited for reader e textbooks.Six colleges will be participating in a pilot program of the DX e textbook reader this autumn. They are giving out about 50 Kindle DX's at each school and then receiving comments to develop the pilot program. For the reason that there is such a wide selection of e textbooks available, more than just the pilot students will be using the DX this quarter.
The DX isn't the only act in town. Digital e book readers shops are springing up all over the Internet. A perfect e textbook store is iChapters.. They offer a unique spin on e textbooks. Not only do you save on digital downloads, but with iChapters you can download individual chapters and not have to pay for the whole book.
To get the ball rolling they had a competition where 5 students could win 1000$ worth of textbooks.. The e textbook is here to stay.. Another big contender in the segment is CourseSmart. You can subscribe to each schoolbook you need that semester.. You don't actually own the book but you have access the entire quarter. Save a little space on that book shelf.. Even throughout the first day of class.
An additional big participant in the action is eCampus they are one of the oldest as well as most recognized online schoolbook retailers, and there is no way they are letting the e textbook transformation pass them by. Their website is intuitive and easy to traverse..
Public schools are getting in on the action too. In June, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the digital text book initiative. This initiative will put into practice ebook textbooks for math and science at a Southern California High University and then it will phase out to other campuses, grades, and courses.
The switch to digital should realize public schools millions of dollars per year. With savings like that other States will join the initiative.. This will not only save cash but will make updates easier and provide the participants with more current information. This autumn is the beginning of a new era in ebook text soon they will be an common thing in campuses across the land.
