This Is Sparta! Techno Remix

If you use YouTube at all, you’ve undoubtedly been exposed to a number of great techno remixes of pop culture content. But one of the most widely-known and spoken about remixes on the great YouTube is definitely the This is Sparta! Techno Remix.

As a musical remix, it isn’t that good. Lacks on the creativity scale in terms of which sounds are repeated, how lines are used in the music, and the lack of deviation from the regular beats and rhythms. However, the video editing is actually very impressive. Not only does the remixer choose some of the best scenes from the film, but he or she also satirizes several great pop cultural icons. Things like Night at the Roxbury from Saturday Night Live, The Goonies, My Name is Earl, lolcats, and Star Wars collide with homemade footage and silly YouTube classics.

To top it off, the remixer cut-and-pasted Gerard Butler’s head on all of these images to bring the whole thing together. In short, the thing is hilarious and quite clever … despite the lack of originality in the actual techno beats used.

At present time the first video shared of this techno remix has over 1.8 million views, not including all the rip-off videos that follow. (In case you weren’t aware, some people like to pull a popular video and repost it themselves so as to drive traffic to their own posts. Silly in my opinion, but maybe it does something useful for that person. An annoyance either way when trying to determine view popularity of a single creative work.)

Check it out.
