Three Bits Of Travel Insurance Advice That Could Save You A Packet

You could include muggers. The police in former Soviet countries would also be in there. Large red buttons on space ships labelled 'self-destruct' definitely get the nod. But to this list of things not to mess with should be added travel insurance. Some may scoff, but just imagine getting a broken nose from the mugger, you get angry that the police aren't dealing with your claim and you 'fall' in your cell, and then you have to pay the hospital bill for your injuries because you don't have the right travel insurance. So there you go. As for the spaceship, well, I don't think space is covered in most policies. Here are some points to consider:

1. Get Annual cover if you want to have all the benefits of travel insurance without the hassle of buying it afresh every time you plan to travel. For frequent travellers this is also by far and away the best type of policy, as it will work out cheaper than several single trip policies. The thing to watch out for here is that each trip cannot usually be more than a month long.

2. Skiing and snowboarding are activities which need to be insured with optional extra cover on a standard policy or with a dedicated ski policy. A normal travel insurance policy won't cover you for injuries suffered on the slopes or the loss of ski equipment. Sometimes with this category of holiday insurance the big names in the business won't necessarily be the most competitive, instead look to specialists in winter sports for the best premiums and the most dynamic cover.

3. The excess limits on a policy catch people out whether it is travel insurance or car insurance. They can be high and expose you to a hefty bill before the remainder of your claim will be settled. Going for a more expensive policy with a lower excess is often the wise choice to make.
