Tic Tac Toe-----a Game Of Noughts And Crosses!

We always look for simple games that can entertain anyone from the age of 3 or 4 to 105. Kids can play it amongst themselves; adults can play the game with their children; and grandparents most certainly can play it with their grand kids.


Not much is known about the history of tic-tac-toe. Some believe that it is an ancient Egyptian game; others say that it an off shoot of a Roman game called Terni Lapilli.

Tic Tac Toe is also known as tick tack toe (a change in the spelling). In England it is called noughts and crosses. In some regions it is called X’s and O’s.

Where ever and when ever it started it is a good game for all to have fun and to learn and implement game strategy. It can be absorbing and time consuming and ideal to keep the young ones occupied for a few minutes.

The goal of the game is to get three X’s or O’s in a row (vertically, horizontally or diagonally) to be declared the winner.

As described in Wikipedia when winning percentages are considered there are 255,168 possible games. With X making the first move 131,184 games are won by X. 46,080 games finish in a draw; the rest of the games are won by Y.

Various game shows such as Hollywood Squares used tic-tac-toe grid with various stars placed throughout the board.

In the 1983 film WarGames, tic-tac-toe is used to avert a nuclear war by getting the computer involved in a game of tic-tac-toe.

The game is very simple and its’ this simplicity at fun and entertainment that makes it enjoyable to play by all.
