Tightening Up Home Security Measures Across Oregon And Nevada
1. Check for updates and run the tests. It may surprise you, but many home alarm owners in Oregon and Nevada have no idea how their system is operating. Would it even go off if someone broke into the house one day? Unless you run tests on a regular basis, you really have no way of knowing. Small glitches can render your system useless. While you are running the tests, you might also check with your alarm manufacturer and see if any updates have become available in recent times. 2. Put your lighting to work for you. Are your outdoor lights operating by motion sensor? Do you have burnt-out bulbs? Have you neglected interior lights when you go out? If you cannot answer these questions in the right way, you have gone off track in your home security plan. Lighting is one of the best ways to discourage burglars from trying to work on a door or window outside, while it may send them off to another house in the first place if it appears there is someone at home. Light timers can get this done. 3. Address problems posed by sliding doors. You might see a sliding door off the porch or balcony as a convenient and picturesque touch around the house, but burglars see them as an easy way inside. If the doors are off track, they can be lifted up and out. While your alarm would come in handy at this point, there might not be enough time for law enforcement to arrive, making it open season in your home for at least a few minutes. 4. Get your second floor covered. While most home alarm systems focus on the first floor of a home, you might want to go the extra mile and get your upper floors covered as well. Possible entry points include roofs connected to other homes, balconies connected to those of neighbors and windows with access via high tree branches. You will take a lot of the guesswork out of it when you take care of this step. 5. Reinforce the doors on your home. If a burglar decides he is going to forgo the skills of his trade and instead try to ram down your door, will he be able to succeed? It is very useful to think about very crude methods of home entry while tightening up your security plan. Make sure your locks and strike plates on doors are strong enough to stop such a crude attempt to break inside your home.
