Time Management

I've lost count the number of times I've heard someone say that they ran out of time, or did not have enough time to do something they desired to do. I know I use to speak about this quite frequently myself. When you ponder on those words, is it that you truly never had enough time to accomplish it, or that you wasted the time you had? I know for me personally, when I use to repeat those words, it's not that I didn't have time to study a chapter in the book, obviously I did. I sleep for roughly 6 hours a day, which leaves me with 16 hours whereby I could read the chapter. The challenge was that I chose to make use of those 16 hours in such a way as that I couldn't do something which was necessary to me, I squandered the time allocated to reading the books chapter.

Personally, an effective way I've found to control time is to do the first things first. How this works is that I try to do the important things as soon as possible. I get this stuff out of the way so that I cannot use the excuse of lacking time. Through experience i rarely multitask. I realize you'll be in shock when you read that, but I believe it's better to give my undivided focus on something in order to complete it well, rather then sharing my attention to a variety of things at once, and doing them all with half the attention. Call me a perfectionist.

Determine what's important to you. How will you do this? By writing a list! Each evening, before going to bed, I'll write down a listing of what exactly I wish to achieve the very next day. I'll write everything that I can consider down on a sheet of notepad paper, which i carry inside my wallet. In the age of technology, I'm sure you can also use your phone for this, but I prefer the manual approach to actually writing everything down, as I feel I get a better sense of what I'm seeking to accomplish.

I'll make a list, and on this list, I'll then prioritise the entries. So, I'll number each item from most critical to lowest. The most crucial ones stands out as the ones I've got to accomplish that day, so paying my electricity bill for example, otherwise my lights will go out, and my least important can be something I can defer for the next day, so for example, washing the car. Whilst washing the car may be important, it's no where near as vital to me as having no electricity.

Once I've numbered the items, I'll then leave the list for the next morning, and start on it as soon as I wake up. I'll get up that morning, get ready for work, and then do what requires to be done from the list as soon as possible. Little else gets in my way. I won't be distracted, as I realize what I need to center on. I aim to finish as many of these things as possible, and then that evening I'll revue my list again. I'll then create another list for the next day, which will only include the things I want to do which never got completed on my previous list. This is the way I manage time, and I would recommend that you try these simple measures if you're an individual who's ever had time management problems previously.

You won't just stop wasting time, as you'll no longer be distracted as you'll know exactly what you ought to do, but once you start taking note of the improvements in your life through your better handling of your time, you'll discover that you can still have a great time, and relax in the way you wish afterwards, therefore not missing anything, merely by doing the key stuff first.
