Time Travelers Wife Dish
This movie could have been very interesting if there were just a little more thought put into it offering the audience a unique explanation concerning the character’s time traveling. Would you be satisfied with the film if there were no explanation for this man traveling through time? The fact that he has a “gene” that makes time travel against his will and wake up naked once he reaches his destination is, at least to me, slightly silly. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem using my imagination and rolling with magical stories but the events that happened in the film just weren’t enough to make me forget about the fact that time travel needs to have a better explanation. I understand that the director wanted to focus on the character’s relationship with his wife and the obstacles they need to conquer around his condition. If they wanted the relationship to be believable they should have set up a better background story. The movie started off being slightly comical and makes you question if the whole thing will just be a light-hearted story about this guy going back and forth in time and trying to maintain a relationship along the way. I expected a more serious film but caught myself laughing at times and wondering what in the world I got myself into. His relationship with his wife lacked a romantic connection. Bana and Rachel McAdams just don’t make the world's greatest on-screen couple no matter how much you may enjoy them. They’re both decent actors though they don’t have the spark you’d see between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds or even Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. On a positive note, the movie did get better toward the end as the plot thickened slightly and it was worth finishing. You may enjoy this movie if you don't expect to dive into a deep story. Sci-fi and romance just aren't the best mix for this director. I would however recommend watching it while doing something else like needlepoint or housecleaning!
