Time Management: A Way To Deal With Stress

Work-related stress is, more often than not, caused due to poor time management. Too much to do within a given span of time, results in the inability to handle all the responsibilities with desired results, and this, in turn, creates stressful working condition. This does not depend on the size or complexity of the project. Unplanned action at workplace can result in highly stressful situations and poor results.

Hence, for individuals with constant work pressure and multiple plans, suffering from stress is very common. Also, one cannot always guarantee that all will go as planned and the uncertainty factor can add up to the complexity of the situation and increase the level of stress that has been already caused by the various other factors of the project. Therefore, stress management and time management are strongly interrelated.

Proper time management can lead to planned systematic work and hence, hassle-free and stress free progression on the project at hand. Even though stress is often argued to be a positive motivator for higher goal, you need to think practically and manage your time in order to be able to use the resources available to the optimum level and gain higher productivity.

Symptoms of defective Time Management and a Stressful Life

Effective time management can not only relieve you of stress but also give you an increased productivity. To begin with, you must find an approach suited to your lifestyle and needs that is practical and doable. The new schedule might not be very easy to follow in the beginning, but with time things will fall into the right places.

However, having said all these things, the primary step to be taken before anything else is to recognize that you are suffering from poor time management. Here are a few symptoms which can tell you if you are suffering from the same:

• Easy and frequent irritability while working.

• Continued tiredness and exhaustion.

• Poor concentration.

• Inability in monitoring one’s plans and work. .

• Sleeplessness due to acute anxiety and unexplained discomfort.

Better Time Management means better output

Successful time management almost always results in increased productivity. So, it is important that you keep in mind that time management is imperative for stress reduction and that you have to practice this on a day to day basis. Following are a few tactics that might fit you:

• Planning your everyday activities. The list should be made in order of priority, where the most important ones go to the top of the list. This helps evade rushing through your work.

• If your own schedule is packed never take up others’ work. This way you will spoil not only your own but even their work.

• Cultivate the skill of efficiently assigning tasks so that you do not have to do unnecessary work.

• While working, you must self-assess the time and effort you are spending on a certain project. If you deem that it is not the right approach, waste no time in switching to a new, more effective plan.
