Tips Of Good Health – 4 Dietary Principles To Live By

When embarking on changing and improving our health and lifestyle, we all need to know where to start – some tips of good health. How many of us actually take the steps that will provide us with the best chance of avoiding cancer and other diseases in our lives?

Clearly, a diet rich in antioxidants is the fundamental road to neutralizing free radicals, so keeping us as healthy as possible, and cancer-free.

Each and every day our bodies are besieged by forces within the elements such as environmental toxins. If you live in a densely-crowded city, you will know that industrial pollutants rob so many of us of the fresh air necessary for good health. It’s the price we pay for perceived progress.

Just recently in my home city there was a very serious industrial fire. Plumes of toxic smoke enveloped the atmosphere for several days. Schools were closed and nearby people evacuated from their homes. For a few days it was worrying, and then, the fire died and people simply forgot. Yet it’s hard to believe that the toxins just disappeared with the death of the fire.

The reality is that when evidence disappears, so too does concern. Many people still live and work in the vicinity of the fire. Who knows what pollutants they are still breathing in? This is the very type of occurrence that can open the floodgates to free radicals.

We can’t all pack up and leave when things like this happen, but what we can do is try to mitigate the effects through best nutrition.

Today, that is harder than ever, as the food that we generally eat, rather than nourishing our bodies, has in fact become a physical stressor. Foods laden with MSG, trans-fats, fructose and artificial sweeteners, all serve to take their toll.

Here are 4 dietary principles to live by – tips of good health.

1. Ditch Supermarket Food!

If you are really intent on reducing the impact of free radicals in your body, then a change of diet, an about turn in your shopping habits, and new-found way of presenting food, is a given.

Minimally-processed food will become your friend. Fresh, unadulterated foods, that is, fresh vegetables and fruits in season, are jam-packed with antioxidants. They can become your weaponry to neutralize and fight free radicals, rendering them harmless within your system.

In his book ‘The Antioxidant Miracle’, Dr. Lester Packer talks about the interplay of antioxidants in our bodies. A diet rich in antioxidants, and bolstered by supplementation, has the ability to stem almost all the diseases associated with aging, and allow us to live healthy, productive lives well into our eighties and nineties.

It’s a wonderful idea that we could live so well, free of heart disease, be clear-thinking and cognitively sharp, with bodies well-defined and wrinkle-free. Dr. Lester explains how to do this in his very readable book that demonstrates the how-to of an orthomolecular approach.

Embracing a diet rich in antioxidants such as vitamins C, E, beta-carotene, and the lycopene that is available through a wide variety of colourful fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts will begin the process of cancer protection.

2. Drink Green Smoothies Every Day

Cruciferous vegetables are amazingly powerful cancer fighters. Vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, kale, and many of the Asian greens can be blended into delicious smoothies for a meal-in-an-instant!

So many people will protest at this and say that they dislike these vegetables, but blended with a favourite fruit, they take on a whole new dimension! Moreover, they can be made in a minute or less!

The best way to start on these drinks is to go gently, easing greens into a blend, and adding more as one’s palate adjusts. They are amazing powerhouses of energy and vitality. Low-sugar fruits such as oranges, lemons, avocados, and berries can be blended into these amazing smoothies.

3. Include For Every Meal:

It’s really vitally important that every meal should contain several of these antioxidant-rich foods, preferably, raw!

This is not so onerous, if you stop to think about it – smoothies for breakfast, a large salad for lunch with sprouts and greens and lightly-steamed greens with dinner will serve to provide you with the protection you need.

4. Not Only Smoothies But Also Vegetable Juices!

If you have your own vegetable garden, there is no better way to put the vegetables to use than through a quality juicer. What could be better? Taking vegetables from your garden when they are still alive and kicking is a sure-fire way to health.

Again, it’s up to your palate, but make sure you have lots of green vegetables in the juice and add other fruits and vegetables to your liking. What’s more, you can fill up a flask and take it to work with you, and just perhaps, it will remove the temptation to feast on the fast-food that is on offer there.

So, what will you do? You may be a little overwhelmed by all of this right now, but if you are prepared to start small and build up to a more healthy diet, be assured you will find an energy supply beyond belief.

Remember too, it’s not all doom and gloom. Whilst these foods should form the bulk of your diet, less healthy foods, in much smaller quantities, shouldn’t impact too heavily on your health outcomes. Just some tips for your good health.
