Diabetes is a disease with no permanent treatment. However, it can be controlled, if a diabetic person properly follows certain precautionary steps. A combination of regular exercise and a proper diet can work wonders or diabetes patients. A well-balanced diet may prove to be the best tool in combating diabetes. You may live a normal and healthy life, if you pay proper attention towards your diet.

Therefore, a proper diet of diabetic has to be planned in consultation with a dietician, nutrition and/or doctor. An ideal diet of diabetic needs to the provide the person with all the essential nutrients, but in proper amounts.

For instance, proteins are essential for carrying out the normal functions of the body. However, if a person is suffering from renal diabetes, then care must be taken to ensure that the protein limit in the daily diet does not exceed eight ounces. Similarly, the diet needs to contain foods that have low carbohydrate and fat contents. The fiber count should not exceed 1.4 oz per day.

Sweets, processed food items, fried and junk foods may prove to be harmful for diabetic individuals. Therefore, diet of diabetic should avoid such foodstuffs.

In addition, diet of diabetic should limit the intake of foodstuffs that have high potassium and phosphorous content. Avoid read meats and dairy products such as cheese and cream completely from your diet.

A diet consisting of whole cooked cereals and fresh vegetables such as green leafy vegetables, pumpkin, cabbage and broccoli is highly recommended for diabetic people. You can never undermine the importance of fruits and especially, people suffering from diabetes. Fruits such as orange, apple, apricot and grapes may be ideal for a diabetic person.

Finally, having two glasses of skimmed milk everyday may also be very beneficial.
