The first way to find out how much the job should be paying is too look at similar positions in that same area. Do not compare the same position in New York to one in a rural town in the mid-west. The east coast has substantially higher living expenses, therefore unless the person commutes from the rural mid-west to New York each day, the salary is going to look very inflated. Another way is to use search engines to find how much the person is worth, according to their experience and education level. Someone who has several years of experience in the field is going to be worth substantially more than someone fresh out of college, who has simply worked part-time minimum wage jobs for a few years. There are salary calculators available that allow people to input information, such as their level of education, how much they made at their previous position and how many years of experience they have in the field. The calculator sorts through a massive database to compare the person's statistics to those of others to determine what qualification level they fall into. After it does the calculating it will come back with a rough estimate on what the individual should be making. The bottom line is that people need to go to the interview with the mindset of being the boss. This does not mean to go into the employer's office and immediately reverse the interview process. The true meaning is that the person needs to go in with a professional attitude and a viewable high level of confidence.
