Tips For Digital Scrapbooking With Kids

Digital scrapbooking is a lot of fun, but if you have young children it can sometimes prove difficult to do, especially because they do not always understand what you are doing on the computer. If they are constantly interrupting you it can really put a damper on creativity. Fortunately, you do not have to choose between digital scrapbooking or your family. Afterall, scrapbooking is all about preserving your memories, and it is a great activity to get the whole family involved.

If you struggle with finding time to scrapbook with the kids, here are some tips:

Keep Them Occupied: While many parents will scrap late at night after the kids are in bed, this isn't always the best of choices since being sleep deprived doesn't usually make anyone happy! An alternative would be to keep the kids occupied with an activity they can do with supervision but minimal interaction with you. For example, you may give them some paper and crayons and have them draw pictures for you to take photographs of.

Get Them Involved: You might be surprised at how much your children can contribute to the process of creating a page layout. Let them choose pictures, or ask them what you should write. While you may think that young toddlers might not be able to do much to help, my three year old loves picking out which elements i use to make the pages, and even my one year old enjoys being able to click on the mouse.

Balance Your Time: It can also help to think about what the best time for you to scrapbook each week is and to schedule and balance your time around it accordingly. For example, if you know Saturday mornings tend to be quiet and the kids all like to watch TV for an hour or so, that might be a great time for you to catch up on your scrapbooking.

Make Books With Them In Mind: Kids love reading stories where they are the star and it features the familiar faces of family and friends. Making a scrapbooking book with them in it makes them all the more excited to see what you make. By printing out your projects, it can help them understand what you are doing.

Digital Scrapbooking with your kids can be a lot of fun. Once you find creative ways to get them to involved with the process, you'll find not only do you have more time for scrapping, but it can even make it all the much more rewarding!
