Tips For Soothing A Baby That Every Parent Should Know

All babies cry, but for a new parent, soothing their baby can seem like a daunting proposition. Here are some tips for soothing your precious little one, but always remember that each baby is different and what works for your neighbor’s child may not be the ideal solution for yours.

Soothing Basics: Hungry, Dirty Diapers and Digestion

When a baby is crying, the first things to check are the things new babies do the most often: eat, sleep, and dirty their diapers. Some tips to remember include:

* Hungry babies cry, so it is a good idea to try to feed your infant if they are crying. New babies need to eat often, so check with your doctor to see what to expect with your infant.
* Already fed? Maybe the baby is having some digestion issues. Try burping the infant to relieve some of the gas that could be causing him or her discomfort.
* Check the diaper. It seems simple, but often dirty diapers happen more often than new parents think they will, so when in doubt it is always a good idea to see if the little one needs a clean diaper.

Beyond the Basics: Soothing Tip 1 – Try Using Motion

Infants are often soothed by motion, so moving around with your baby is a great way to soothe your baby. Some of the best methods are:

* Swing and Rock - Rocking the baby in your arms, sitting in a rocking chair, or putting them into a swing are all good ways to keep the baby in motion and soothe their discomfort. Another option is to use a pregnancy ball, also known as a baby ball to bounce the infant into serenity.
* Take a walk. Carry the infant or push them in a stroller to soothe your infant and get some fresh air for yourself.
* Drive around. The noise of the engine and the soothing vibrations of a moving car are another way that you can soothe your infant when they are upset.

Soothing Tip 2 - Calm down

One of the most important things to remember when soothing your infant is that when you are calm, your baby is more likely to be calm as well. If your baby will not stop crying, maybe it is time to let your partner hold the infant and take a shower or nap. When you are rested and calm, soothing your infant will go much more smoothly.
