Tips For Fitting A Mobile Gantry

Mobile gantry cranes offer a very versatile manner in which to lift your goods. Though it is generally plain sailing using mobile gantries, there are a number of tips for fitting mobile gantry equipment safely and also to ensure you get the best from them.

The first and most fundamental thing is to choose the right gantry to ensure you have the tools for the job. There are many variations in the gantry field, so choosing one can take a little bit of know how.

Choose whether you need a goal post, A frame, fold away gantry and if you require ones that are self erecting or are able to foldaway. This will all depend on you specific circumstances. One of the other things to consider is the capacity your crane can hold, its length and the height. These should be measured in relation to the goods; you are lifting or generally lift. It is always better to go for the largest item and ensure it can be safely lifted.

Decide on the type of bracing you will need and the type of block and trolley you wish to use and whether there is a need for brakes, wheel locks and parking jacks to keep the mobile gantry from moving, or whether you wish to use static legs.

Before you set up your gantry you should also ensure it is in a safe and stable place on strong ground. Also, inspect the gantry and the block before you use it. The gantry must also be placed directly over the object you wish to secure and lift, make sure this is the case as it will save you having to move it, which can be dangerous and also time consuming.

If the item is on a hill or an incline or somewhere you don’t want it to move on, make sure the brakes are on. If you need to move the gantry afterwards disconnect all the power supplies and anything that would connect what you are lifting to something else.

If you can, get someone to help you, if even only to just prevent people from walking close to or under the gantry, this is essential for safety. If at any stage the gantry seems to become unstable let the item you are holding down as quickly as possible. This should be the case if the load begins to swing from side to side or even slightly, the centre of gravity should be at the centre, and otherwise the gantry may be dangerous.

If you manage to follow all of these rules for gantry use, then you should have a safely fitted mobile gantry that will easily lift any of your needs.

As you can see it is a lot of practical sense, so should you see anything that may cause trouble, take care of it immediately.
