Tips For The Performers Of A Vocal Contest

Performing in a vocal contest is not very easy. It is really difficult at times. The thing is that there are a lot of people watching you. This can make your nervous. If you use the following tips, you will be at ease in a singing competition.

• First of all, understand one thing, when you are singing you are the one in charge of the microphone. You have to be as familiar with it as possible. You should know the right way to hold it and practice with it as much as possible.

• Once you enter a vocal competition, it is important that you check the type of microphone that you will be provided with. This is very important as you have to share a comfort level with the mike. If you are performing in front of a crowd for the first time, you should not go for a stand. Also it is better that you do a final mike check to see that the mike is really ON.

• You should make it a point to introduce yourself to the judges and the audience. Start practicing your introduction days before the vocal contest. It would help if you can write the introduction on the small index cards. After that you should practice as much as you can. You should not lose your fluency while speaking to the judges or the audiences. Your introduction should be short and should include your name and the song that you will be singing. You also have to give a reason for choosing that particular song. It will give you a great opening for your performance. If you do not do a formal introduction, chances are you will not be able to connect with the audience.

• It s very important for you as a performer to dress properly. You should understand that a judge will pay very close attention to your look and the way you ‘carry’ yourself. You should dress up suitably for the singing competition. Also see to it that you get a haircut before the vocal competition so that you should not look shabby. The idea is to reflect your confidence in your appearance. This will make the people believe a lot more in you. This belief will carry you towards success.

• If you are anxious think of it as a natural thing. Most performers do get anxious especially if it is their first time. You will be surprised to know that even the most experienced and veteran singers can develop a feeling of anxiety before a performance. So just try to relax and forget all the tensions. This way you will be able to get rid of the anxiety.

• The most important thing that you should remember is that you are standing in front of the audience just because you deserve it. This is no fluke. It will help to double your confidence in no time and will make you a favorite with the audience and judges of a vocal contest.
