Tips To Avoid Work-related Stress

Back pain, sore shoulders and neck, aching hands and wrists; these are all common complaints among office workers. Spending hours each day in front of a computer can place incredible strain on the body. Even with the best job in the world, you can suffer from stress and pain at work. Try these tips for decreasing the stress on your body and avoiding work-related pain.
* Get out of your chair! Take a minute to stand up and stretch your back and shoulders. This will significantly relieve any strain on your muscles. * Sit up straight! Keep your back and wrists straight, with your shoulders and arms relaxed while typing. A good, ergonomic chair with adjustable arm rests and back support can encourage you to maintain good posture, reducing the stain on your back, shoulders and neck. * Adjust your monitor. Place your monitor centered directly in front of your body, and raise it to eye level. You should never have to bend your neck or twist your body to view your screen. Adding a monitor lift to under your screen can be a quick, easy solution to add height. * Maximize your desk arrangement. Make sure you can easily reach any item that you use frequently. A careless reach to grab a stapler can pinch a nerve or strain a muscle. * Try a document holder. This one tool can greatly reduce should and neck soreness. By keeping document at eye level for reading and typing, you no longer have constant movement or a bent neck. * Give your eyes a break. Stop for a minute and look out a window. Focusing on something farther away helps relieve strain in your eyes. Use this relaxing technique whenever you need to think through an email or search for the right word. * Change tasks occasionally. This will keep your mind sharp, your work productive, and your body fresh. * Keep your wrists straight. When typing, never bend your wrists up or down and always keep your hands directly in line with your arms.
