To Learn What Students Think, Create An Online Grading Site For Teachers To Make Extra Money

Teachers provide plenty of feedback to students throughout the year but usually do not receive much in return. Unless a teacher is absolutely horrible, the administration often does not get feedback from students about his or her performance. When it comes, it is usually from parents and administrators have trouble determining whether the thoughts are those of the student or parent. By creating a Web site for students and parents to separately grade teachers, all will be revealed.

Sites like this already exist but they are pretty generic. A teacher can establish a new site specific to the curriculum of the school. When marketed effectively, this will generate much more targeted feedback than one of those one-size-fits-all sites. Schools can actually use some of the hard data and comments to make a case for tweaking programs or adding new services. This site may start as a simple performance measurement tool but could end up being much more.

In order for a teacher to inform parents and students about the site, some marketing must take place. Flyers can be posted in the school and mailed to parents, informing them of the new site and its purpose. Some schools capture email addresses for students and parents so the information can also be distributed via email containing a link to the site.

Once a teacher has perfected this model with his or her own school, an opportunity to make extra money arises. The template used to develop the rating program can be sold to other schools. By tailoring the content to its curriculum, any school can use the established rating system. Since marketing to each school individually would be infeasible, the teacher who developed the system must do some online promotion.

Many teachers do not fancy themselves marketing gurus so they need some help. They can turn to a system used by expert online marketers for years. This type of program includes methods designed to publicize any Web site. All the teacher does is follow the step-by-step tutorial for each Internet marketing technique.

If the rating system is comprehensive and well-developed, the teacher who established it may make extra money by selling it to other schools. Teachers all over the country may soon learn what their students really think of them. They will be able to distinguish student thoughts from those of parents and improve or tailor their teaching methods to meet the needs of both populations.
