Tonneau Covers For Pickup Trucks -- Tips
All bed covers put cargo out of sight. Hard covers do more. Only the most determined thief can get beyond the locked hard tonneau since it really will takes some tools and likely some violence to break into most hard covers. In some cases, like the retractable versions the cover itself is an aluminum sheet that nobody is going to easily get past. Combine a locked cover with a locked tailgate and you have serious load protection. Ease of use goes along with certain designs. For example the Access brand covers employee a hook and loop sealing system that beats snaps for ease of use and more. The Access cover uses a tightening feature to snug the cover in place much like a trampoline after the cover is in place. That way, it's easy to get on and off but still stays tight while it's closed. Plus that makes for less wear and tear on the cover fabric as well as on the fastening system as well. As the weight of covers go up, so often goes up the difficulty of installing the cover. That's so especially with some of the tilt covers and especially that is true because of the bulk of these covers. But no longer is drilling holes in the bed sides part of installation on most covers. That reduces the stress associated with getting the covers in place and makes for less chance of a spot for rust to start. Clamp on mounting replaced bolt on and that makes installation far simpler. No tonneau can keep every bit of water out, but some come close. It's partly the seal system that's responsible for how well the cover waterproofs. Seals are of different sorts, especially the critical side seals. For soft covers especially the seals are critical since the cover must not only be put in place be tightened as well. Systems on soft covers that allow fastening the cover in place and then tightening it afterwards are easier to use. Check online for reviews of the cover you are considering and likely you will quickly find what actual owners think about how it works to seal and keep out water and dirt. Handy covers often cost just a little, maybe less than you might think. Soft pickup truck covers cost little but are still durable, easy to install and provide full bed access better than many more expensive models. Soft covers are worth a look for bed protection at a low to moderate price.
