Everyone has heard of the old cliche, if it seems good to be true, it probably is. People are always trying to cut corners and make mucho money with very little working hours. Scammers are aware of this human nature. That’s is why when ever you look in your local newspaper’s job classifieds or on any online job search engine it is full of job ad appealing to lazy money hungry Americans. Secret shopping scams are the most common. You’ve seen the ads, set your own hours, work when you want, get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to shop at your favorite retailer. If this was true then everyone would be doing it. However, they are not true and can end up costing a victim mucho dollars.

On the other hand, secret shopping can be a great job for a serious career minded individual. Though there are many secret shopping scams, there are just as many legit companies who depend on secret shopping as a training tool. It’s a great way to monitor and polish a sales force’s presentation. For decades, top retailers and self storage businesses have used secret shopping to increase sales and generate more revenue. At the same time companies want to make sure that there customers are receiving special and fair treatment.

So if you are interested in secret shopping and want to avoid being scammed by one of the many secret shopping ads, follow the advice listed below.

Keep in mind that anyone at anytime can place ads in a newspaper or on the internet. Many secret shopping scam ads appear legit and sound professional with an official sounding name. Some of the names sound like or close to real company names, so be aware.

When was the last time you’ve heard someone paying the employer to work for the company? Isn’t it the other way around? That is why you are looking for a secret shopping job, to make money. If you have to pay someone to work for them, it’s probably a scam. Most legit secret shopping companies pay for your training. So why would you want a job that makes you pay? If it doesn’t make sense, it is probably a scam. If a secret shopping company wants you to work for them they will invest in you, not the other way around.

While some legitimate secret shopping companies will ask you to disburse money from out of your own pocket to purchase the merchandise you buy as a secret shopper, tread carefully in this regard. However, never wire money to firms or strangers that supposedly hired you. Credit cards and checks can be disputed, but wiring money is like sending cash and it is gone forever.

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Secret shopping frauds prey on those who are gullible or desperate to find an easy lucrative job. If you are one of these people, be wary that there are predators hungry for your naive blood.
