Top 50 Sites To Make It To Digg Homepage

I've spent the past few weeks researching online trends and why certain sites get more "buzz" than others. I've collected a lot of data and I would like to share some with the public. Digg, the popular social news site, displays the top sites that have made it to the homepage with their very handy advanced search tool.

I browsed the technology section and made a list of the top 50 sites that have made it to the homepage in 2006. This is just a list of all sites. If I have time in the next few days I will also post the actual pages that made it to the homepage.

I find this data useful because I can watch what these sites are doing and study their content strategy.

*Note: This data was collected the week of 11/20/2006

Wow! What do all of these sites have in common? They are mostly authority sites with very well written content. Getting buzz about your site/content is all about 2 things:

1. Great custom articles - don't simply rehash news...other sites and bloggers aren't going to pass it around and link to it.

2. Consistency - this is a numbers game. For every 100 fantastic articles you write, a couple will gain heavy traction.

I also have the data for some smaller sites that have made it to the homepage of Digg 10-20 times. If I have time in the next few days I will post this too.
