Top Eight Email Etiquette To Remember
However, some people still don't know how to use this medium properly. On the internet, there are email netiquette or net etiquette set for us to remember. Here is the top eight: 1. Avoid creating an unprofessional email address. What would you feel if you got an application letter from sexy_bluelady@yahoo.com or from cool_erick69@gmail.com? This might be OK if we are still teenagers or if the recipients of our email are our family members or friends. However, when we are already working as a professional, it follows that we create a professional-looking email address as well. The best one would be composed of your first and last names. (e.g. john_doe@yahoo.com) 2. AVOID ALL CAPS or oversized fonts. When your email is composed of all uppercase letters or the font size is too large, it seems that you are shouting. Be sensitive of this. 3. Don't overdo your formatting. You can color or highlight with a different color or use bold fonts if you want to emphasize some of our email's contents. Just don't overdo it to the point that it will look like something taken out from a children's book. 4. Check your speling. Before clicking that SEND button, make sure that you have already double-checked the spelling as well as the grammar. 5. Do nt snd an email which looks lyk u r just txting. This is just so annoying. An email is not an SMS (short mesaging system). 6. Use a descriptive Subject line. Your email's subject should provide the recipient an idea of what the email is all about. Avoid subjects like hello... or :-) 7. One punctuation mark is enough!!!!!! Ok????? Using five exclamation marks will really not make the message you are trying to convey more understandable that just one exclamation mark. 8. Use acronyms sparingly. Not everybody can really understand what AFAIK is. Even using common ones like BTW is not advisable as it makes your email less professional.
