Top Six Holiday Shopping Safety Tips

On the news last night was the story of a lady who had her purse stolen as she was coming out of the mall after doing some holiday shopping. That was the one we heard about. There are thousands more we never hear about and they almost never get solved.

Robbery and assault go up at this time of year. Why? In part because women make it so easy; they are so vulnerable!

Picture this! A woman comes out of the mall on the way to her car in a parking lot that isn't well lit. She may be pushing a cart or carrying bags. She's probably on her cell phone. She may have one or more children with her. Does she have any distractions???

She is a prime target for the bad guys who sneak up behind her and rip her purse away.

Here are six safety tips to help keep you stay out of harm's way.

1. KEEP YOUR PURSE-tucked under your arm.

2. KEEP YOUR KEYS- out and ready. They can double as a weapon too.

3. REFLECTIONS-from your windows can help heighten awareness.

4. STAY FOCUSED-stay off your cell phone. The bad guys feast on women who are distracted. A woman's sixth sense may be her best friend.

5. NEVER GO ALONE-to your car. Go with others even if you have to ask for an escort. Don't let pride get in the way. Better safe than sorry.

6. ALWAYS CARRY-some self defense products like stun guns, pepper sprays and personal alarms.

Make your holidays memorable for the right reasons and not because you got assaulted and robbed in a parking lot. Use these six tips when you go shopping and you'll be way ahead of the game.
