The following tips help you to keep your website on the straight and narrow.

1. It is important to structure your page well, this reflects on the usability of the site. If the pages are ordered and make sense to the user they are more likely to successfully use the website. And allowing your visitors to easily navigate through your website only enhances its effectiveness.
2. Before going ahead with the design of the website it is imperative that you sit down and make sure you have the focus of the website.
3. Being careful about what ads are shown on your website is a really good idea. If a visitor is bombarded by more ads than content they aren’t likely to return or purchase anything from your website.
4. Make sure you choose the right colour scheme and thinking about your readers emotions is a good indication of what scheme you should go for. If you are using more than one colour they should blend together nicely.
5. Visitors should be able to grasp the main focus of the website by simply scanning the pages and this can be achieved by using good copy. Make sure there are enough breaks in the text content and bolding some words is a great way to make the main points shine through. Clever copy really is key.
6. You should try and keep things as simple as possible – don’t create 10 steps for a process which only really needs 3.
7. Using 100 different fonts can be incredibly frustrating for a visitor to your site so be consistent with both your typeface and sizing.
8. The old saying may tell us ‘not to judge a book by its cover’ but it is unfortunately not the case. The first impression someone will get of your website is incredibly important – so make sure it is a good one.
