Top Tips For Selecting And Wearing Perfume Through Winter

Selecting a perfume to wear is something that a number of people give very little consideration. A large percentage of people will only own a couple of perfumes that they will wear year round with little thought as to how well that perfume fits into a particular situation or season. This article is going to look at why you should consider the season when selecting a perfume and give advice on how to effectively wear a fragrance in Winter.

The first thing that you should consider when choosing a perfume to wear in the cold winter months is how perfumes react with your skin. After you apply a perfume (at any time of the year) it will react with your skin and depending on this reaction the fragrance can develop in different ways. In the winter your skin is likely to be colder which will generally result in a fragrance becoming slightly muted making it the ideal time to opt for the heavier fragrances that can feel smothering through the Summer Months.

When applying the perfume you should also consider the fact that you are likely to be wearing more layers of clothing. Again this can result in delicate fragrances becoming lost; the solution to this is either to apply the perfume more generously or to select a more potent perfume that can handle the winter combination of cold skin and heavy clothing.

Another key tip for applying perfume in the winter is to discover your body's "warm spots". Warm spots are areas on your body where blood vessels are closest to the surface resulting in them retaining warmth better than other areas of the body. As was mentioned earlier cold skin can dull a fragrance so applying perfume to these warm spots can help the perfume to flourish and last throughout the day. Some warm spots that perfume is applied to include the wrists, behind the ears and the clavicle.

The above tips all deal with how to wear perfume (or aftershave) in the Winter but don't really consider what scents work well in Winter. Fragrances that rely on heavy base notes, such as musk or vanilla(as found Ghost perfume), are perfect for wearing in the Winter. In summer these scents can feel a little dense and cloying, but in Winter they seem warm and comforting. Fragrances that are based and spices also work well through the Winter as they warm and also invoke memories of Christmas.
