Top Uk Autumn Activities
One of the UK’s hiking hotspots is the Lake District. Its beautiful scenery can be enjoyed from the top of a hill or the edge of a crag. Autumn is the perfect time to go and discover the fells and go on some of the most famous walks in the area such the ascent of Scafell Pike. It is the ideal way for spending the last few nice days of autumn in the glorious outdoors. However, it is important to set out with the right equipment, waterproof clothes and a good pair of hiking boots or shoes and a map are a must-have. Mountainbiking is also a very popular autumn activity, as many enthuthiasts come for one last ride along the marked trails in Scottish and Welsh Forests as well as the Yorkshire Dales. Often marked trails allow riders of all levels to choose the route that best suits them. Some mountainbiking hotspots also include a skills loop so that riders can try out new skills and techniques. When biking during the autumn, it is strongly advised to go out with the apropriate rain-gear as well as lights, tools (a puncture repair kit, a pump and a few spanners are the strict minimum) and supplies (snacks and drinks are necessary if you are set to go on a long ride regardless of the weather conditions). Aside from physical activities like mountainbiking and hiking, autumn is also the perfect time to go fungi foraging or blackberry picking. Fungi foraging is a very popular activity in the forest of Wales and Scotland, where the damp weather conditions allow mushrooms to grow aplenty. It is the time when mushroom picking experts set out to the woods in order to pick fresh wild mushrooms that will end up as part of an omelet or will be included in a full English breakfast alongside the bacon, the eggs, the sausages and the black pudding. However, beginners are advised to get some instruction prior to going out fungi foraging as eating the wrong mushrooms can have unwanted consequences (thesse range from severe illness to in most extreme cases, death). Another way to enjoy an autumn break is to go and discover the old English cultural heritage. Breweries are the perfect place to do this kind of thing. The Theakstons brewery in the Yorkshire Dales offers tours of its brewery all year round. The brewery was established in 1827 when William Theakston took up the lease on the Black Bull Inn and Brewhouse. Theakston’s has since then brewed many award winning bears, including Old Peculiar (a rich full bodied, malty ale). It is also possible to purchase the beer you enjoyed the most during the tasting session that ends the tour from the brewery shop. The Model Week in Stratford-Upon-Avon is the perfect event to entertain children during their autumn half-term break. The activities on offer include go-karts, a miniature roadway and 4x4 experiences as well as stop-start driving lessons for under-17 year olds. It is the perfect activity for children to learn about road safety whilst having fun.
