Good quality toys will give years of pleasure to all your children. Playhouses, play castles and pirate ships are some favourite toys for role play and pretend play.

Looked after correctly, they can be handed down from sibling to sibling; indeed some of you will have been lucky enough to pass down your own treasured childhood toys to your own children.

He’ll love to have a special place to call his own for secret meetings or tea-time picnics. He can use his favourite toys and games to play make believe with his friends. His imagination will create new adventures every day. Knights and princesses will defeat the baddies and find the hidden treasure! Dragon slayers will kill scary dragons and rescue damsels in distress.

Fabulous for role play games; a wooden playhouse encourages interaction with other children and helps to improve communication and social skills. With no interruptions from parents, it provides a place where he can play with his best loved toys and games, and he won’t even notice mum and dad watching over him.

For a real taste of the outdoors and a home to call her own, there’s nothing better than a wooden cottage. They come in natural pine which can be treated to retain the natural wood colour or you can choose from one of the pink, blue or yellow painted versions. With windows, a stable door, false shutters and window boxes, it gives her a space to play with her dolls, teddies and all her special toys.

Playhouses can be made from weatherproofed wood or plastic. Weatherproofed doors and roofs allow your child to play inside his house in all weathers. Wood will need treating eventually. It’s a good idea to find out how often you’ll need to repaint or treat the playhouse before you purchase one.

Plastic playhouses are colourful, sturdy and will last for years. They have the added benefit of low maintenance. Apart from an occasional wash, these playhouses need no more looking after. Children love to wash their toys. Give her a sponge and a bucket of water on a warm summer’s day and she’ll spend hours washing her plastic playhouse, especially if she can rinse it with your garden hose-pipe!

Wooden playhouses and tree houses are fantastic havens on warm and rainy summer’s days. They will hold all your children’s beloved toys and create magic memories for years to come.
