Training A Beagle
If this is your first time owning a beagle then you might want to do a bit of reading about beagle training before you jump in. Some experienced dog owners won't actually bother with “tricks” yet, and instead will just get their dog familiar with it's name. When you have that down, the next best trick to train your beagle is to come to you on command. Education their dog to act properly around company often times is neglected by inexperienced dog owners. Sadly because of that, their beagle ends up spending his time away from everyone whenever there is guests over. If you plan on training your beagle yourself then you should traint he important things first, like how to behave around guests and obeying you no matter is what will create a bond between you and your beagle dog. Tricks like sit, stay and fetch are great for show, but don't expect your beagle to be the perfect dog with just teaching it those tricks. No matter how you plan on training your beagle dog, clicker training is most likely the best way to go for you. In many examples, the treat is a decoy. For instance, if you will teach your dog to "spin," just move in a circle your hand holding the treat over the dog's head. If the dog follows, click the clicker, congradulate and give the well earned treat. Once the dog is following consistently, say "spin" whenever the dog is really spinning, so that the beagle can make the association. Using the treat as a decoy may also work for "roll over" and "lay down". It may also occur that the dog will suggest some behaviors on its own, for you to take notice of and encourage through clicks and rewards.
