Trap A Rat Using Rat Traps

Trapping a rat using rat traps is a way trickier than trapping a mouse. The reason – it is highly suspicious and won’t easily go near the trap. Most of the rats which do get caught are likely to be young ones or highly inexperienced.

The spring trap that we use for rats is twice as powerful then the ones used in mice. This is because rats are larger and stronger compared to the mice. These traps which are used on rats are so powerful that they can break your finger if snapped accidently with your hand in it.

The cage like rat trap is a live rat trap. When the animal enters the cage, the trip to which the bait is attached gets triggered and the trap door closes. If you look closely, this cage is really similar to the one used for mice. The trap then can be taken out and the rat can be released.

Another trap that is widely talked about is the one which can catch many rats at a time. It is done by building a funnel like structure with wire and attaching it to one end of the trap. This way the rat might be able to get in the cage but won’t be able to get out as the wide end of the funnel like design would cause them injury if they try to escape.

Since rats are difficult to catch and are smarter than an average pest, serious actions need to be taken if you are dealing with quite a few ones something short of a full blown infestation. This is the reason, electronic rat traps are used. These have motion sensors on the floor and they are battery operated. Once the trap senses movement in the trap, it provides a shock of several thousand volts to the rat, killing it instantly. While this might not be a very humane thing to do, this gets rid of the problem instantly. But you have to be very cautious when dealing with these traps, although these come with safety standards, it is wise to keep these away from places where your pet or small child might play.

A very old method of keeping rats away is smoking their hiding places and driving them out. This is done by lighting fire on a lay or wooden pot and blowing smoke in to the hideouts of rats. Rats are a difficult pest to deal with, so it’s important to know the various methods to trap rats, and use the rat traps specific efficiently.
