Travel insurance is probably the least most exciting part of going on holiday, but so many of us are leaving it to the last minute that we are hitting brick walls when it comes to us requiring medical attention etc we simply don’t have adequate cover.
When you go on holiday nowadays you would not be surprised to see tourist areas covered in posters and leaflets for paragliding, bungee jumping, deep sea diving and wind kiting; but these past times are highly likely to be labelled as “high risk activities” by the majority of travel insurers in the united kingdom.
Although the last thing that we want to be thinking of when we jet off to our summer holiday is death and dismay, if you think that it is likely that you or your family members will be taking part in these kinds of past times you may wish to take out additional cover so you will be safe in the knowledge that if the worst was to happen you would be supplied with all of the care and attention you would need.
The average holiday insurance does not cover you for anything you take part in where the actions hold an obvious risk to your health or wellbeing. What is classed as “high risk” or “dangerous” is unfortunately not set in stone across the board. The list is, although very similar, different for each insurance company depending on their opinion on how dangerous a specific activity is and the likelihood of you hurting yourself.
The most important thing that you must do is ensure, and never assume, that your policy will cover you, even if it says “sports cover”. There is a hefty difference between some physiotherapy on your knee from a tennis game gone bad to a disaster while bungee jumping!
