Travel While Pregnant
Take frequent breaks while traveling pregnant. It is common for many pregnant women to feel the urge to use the washroom often. Make sure to take bathroom breaks as often as needed. When you do take a break, you should also take a moment to walk and stretch your legs. Leg cramps can occur much more often when pregnant. Taking a short walk can help to ease the tension and get the blood flowing after sitting down in the car for so long. If the trip will be exceptionally long, then perhaps you will find it beneficial to schedule your stops so you know in advance where and when they will be. Bring along some healthy snacks and water during your car trip. A small cooler can hold enough items to keep you nourished and appease any cravings you may have during the ride. Bring plenty of water along in bottles as well. It can get hot when you are stuck in the car for hours on end. The best type of snacks are the kind that are both filling and healthy. If you just love your favorite type of chips or chocolate, that is fine. But make sure to bring along some healthier alternatives as well. Take along enough clothing for any weather or climate type that you may run in to. Getting suddenly overheated is common during pregnancy. It can quickly become overwhelming when you have a pregnancy hot flash. Having some lighter clothing that you can easily move around in and feel comfortable in is a must for any car travel. It may not be so bad if you are in your first trimester or maybe even your second. But once you have reached your third trimester it can be much more touchy with the temperatures. Plan ahead for weather changes and random hot flashes. Discomfort can be a real pain when stuck in a car. It is always a good idea to bring all of your prenatal records and information along with you. You never know when you may need it. Though nobody plans to deliver their baby while on the road during a trip, that kind of thing does happen. Being prepared is essential for traveling pregnant. Have your doctor's contact information on hand as well. Even though you hope that you never need to use it, being safe is always the best priority when it comes to keeping both mother and unborn baby safe during a trip in the car.
