Taking out travel insurance is something many of us do a little grudgingly; with all sorts of other expenses to consider when travelling, extra costs like this can seem unwelcome. It is however an absolute necessity for peace of mind when travelling on holiday.

It is more likely to be a 'basic' option that does not allow you to be flexible in the choices you need. Do not be tempted by the 'hard sell' on such policies, but stand your ground and take a look on the internet for a better deal ? remember that you are not obliged to take the policy the travel agent offers either.

Seeing which other policies are available to you online is what more and more of us are doing now, and you will well definitely notice all the savings to be made if you are prepared to do a little bit of research on the internet.

This can be done by using a standard search engine such as Yahoo! or Google, but often these often throw up more questions and choices than answers, leaving one even more confused than when they started.

Many websites offer handy price comparison tools, and these are good because you are not restricted to a single provider. They also offer the opportunity to contrast the different policies available and choose one that is tailored specifically to your needs.
