Traversing Los Haitises National Park Of Punta Cana

A trip to Los Haitises is a one-to-two-day excursion that sees you from your hotel, across a string of ocean, and to mangrove-canopy forests that coat the park and its coastal keys. What Los Haitises is especially known for, however, is its unique topography; the limestone bedrock; and bouts of vegetation littering its hills.

The park, fixed to the southern shore of Samana Bay, is a casual trek from the Punta Cana resorts; traveling to the bay, cross-water by speedboat, and then arriving, by boat, to Los Haitises.

Two vital mangroves comprise the park and function as its most influential life zones; the wet forest and the subtropical rainforest. Among the native elements to Los Haitises are its brilliants range of trees including cedar, ceiba, mahogany, and a number of American species. Birds such as parrots, owls, gannets, ijutiai, and the solendonte are some of the most abundant creatures to the park, darting aimlessly between the thick shaggy branches. As a result, bird-watching expeditions are pinnacle to the tour's success.

La Excursion a Los Haitises, the tour's official and untranslated name, provides two tiers of exploration; both guide through mangrove channels and into the inlet of Bahia de San Lorenzo. Visitors are taken to a number of caves where Taino petroglyphs and carvings can be observed. Concluding the tour, a delicious lunch buffet is served at the Island of Cao.

At 280 square kilometers, Los Haitises functions as the largest estuary in the insular Caribbean and is a protected by an expansive mangrove, humid subtropical forest, and beds of sea grass. The park itself is the product of millions of years of marine-organism development that have flourished into massive screens of green canopy, shading the underbrush; waterfalls that dot the park; and trails of water slivering throughout.
