Treatment Of Bugs In Ash Trees Using Neem Oil

Invasion of bugs into the cultivated land is a serious problem for the farmers. Little concern is made over the Ash tree's deterioration because Bugs play a vital role in it. Bugs like stem borers and aphids are involved in this activity. These insects have the capacity to destroy the entire tree initially starting with trunk drilling followed by the disfiguration of the stem, later emptying of inner bark to a certain extent that disturbs the foliage life finally ending fatal. Some of the main bugs attacking the ash trees includes, Emerald Ash tree borer, Woolly Ash Aphids and Sawfly bugs.

The Emerald ash tree borers are well known to create bore holes at bottom of the tree leaving dead scraps of the trunk on the ground. Sometimes even the heart of the tree is visible after the attack of these bugs. On extreme infestation the whole tree is set to fall. Bore holes created on the tree are made wide by the woodpeckers that upset the appearance of the tree.

Woolly Ash's aphids, a bug variety, feeds on the sap of ash tree leaves and produces waxy like substance called dew, which is responsible for initiating Sooty mold, a pathetic fungal infection on the exposure to the bare environment.

Sawfly bugs in Ash tree are very serious because their attack is characterized by complete defoliation of the leaves. Therefore, the ash tree being very susceptible to the bugs requires proper care and protection to thrive for their growth. Treatment of Bugs is not easy, unless they are identified at early stages, i.e. before the transformation from larvae to adult. Thus prior identification becomes necessary for their treatment.

Organic way of controlling the bugs has been a successful method so far. Neem oil, an extract of neem leaves or seeds will be the apt bio-pesticide against bugs. Researchers reveal that the oil can be effective against almost all types of bugs, including aphids and borers. It also possesses the fungicidal property that helps to control molds at any instance. Regular spraying of neem oil around the trunk and leaves of the tree can keep it safe from the invasion of bugs.
