Trucks -vs.- Cars “roadway Safety And Common Sense!”

Some Safety Facts and Tips:

Do not pull out in front of Big commercial trucks, or tractor trailer when getting on the highway they can not slow down as fast as a regular vehicle, this can cause a major accident. A truck can not just switch lanes as easily as a car and as fast as a car. Trucks also need more distance to stop or slow down.

Do not ride behind them at night with your high beams on, Yes it effects them just because they are higher does not change anything, The mirrors on trucks are also bigger and reflect more light making it harder to see, this can cause an accident.

Do not get annoyed when a truck starts to go slow on an up hill climb, this happens especially if they are under load they are not busting your chops. So back off.
If there are two lanes then pass them.

Be aware when you are approaching an intersection a Truck driver may need to swing wide to make a turn depending on the size and trailer they are hauling. This is non- negotiable they need to turn, take notice back up if possible give them room. They again are not trying to annoy anyone they need to turn.

On the highway when a truck needs to get into the left lane to pass someone give then space to do so flash them your lights to signal all clear. If they flash you back twice or blow the horn twice it usually means thank you. They will usually get back over to the right lane quickly after a pass they do not want to hog the left lane. Give them a chance
do not try to pass them on the right they will move over when they are clear to do so.

Be aware some Trucks are carrying fuels, gasses chemicals treat them like a ticking time bomb stay away, cut them some slack

Truck Drivers are the reason you can buy food, things and whatever at any store. They are the reason you can get gas in your car or in your home without them will suffer greatly.

Truck drivers are sometimes employees of a large company and sometimes an owner operator which means they own their own truck and are contracted or leased out by a company. They are working long hours have dead lines to meet it is not an easy task.
Truck drivers usually have to work 14 hours a day.

Although most drivers are very good I will admit some are jerks. Most drivers have special CDL license some have hazmat there are all kinds of permits, registrations, road use taxes and fuel taxes that are paid besides a million other things. From an individual to a small or large company there is a lot of choreographing that needs to take place.
The expense is enormous, safety is a priority.

Be kind, be observant, sensible and have some respect when driving especially around large Trucks.
