Yes, we are talking about Scotch - a drink pretty expensive and mainly bought by the aristocrats. Scotch is whiskey which can be both distilled and matured and has its origin from Scotland. The Scotch Whiskey Act of 1988 states that scotch must be made in an oak barrel, the capacity not exceeding 700 liters. This amazing drink is being enjoyed for over hundred years and is one of the most consumed alcoholic drinks. Scotch, till now is distilled in Scotland. This is done to keep up the name.
There are four common types of scotch which will be discussed below. Here they are -
* Single Grain - This drink is made from unmalted corn, water, barley or wheat and comes from a single distillery. Single Grain Scotch Whiskey is difficult to find as they are not offered much for sale to the general public. Yet, since this drink is on high demand, the production is much high.
* Blended - Blended Scotch is the most popular drink worldwide. Of all the majority of the scotch that is consumed by people, the blended one accounts for the most. Blends are produced from a number of grain and malt whiskeys with grains near about 80%. When it comes to Blended Scotch Whiskey, to compare it with any other drink may be wrong.
* Single Malt - Single Malt consists only of malt whiskeys from a single distillery. This drink must be distilled in a copper pot stills. Even though the Single Malt is produced in many areas of Scotland, the best area producing the scotch is Speyside. Other areas are Highland, Lowland Campbeltown and Islay. While distilling a Single Malt only malted barley might be considered for the production.
* Single Cask Malt - This scotch is bottled from a single cask. This means that near about 400 bottles can be produced from a single cask. A Single Cask Malt is not as popular as the above three.
Tasting any of these above is a chance of a life time. The scotch drinks are just one-of-a-kind.
