Types Of Hair Extensions

We’ve all heard about how hair extensions are the best way to create different hairstyles and to hide other hair related issues like thinning or loss. But what most people don’t know about are the types of hair extensions and the methods used to apply them. If you’re considering purchasing hair extensions then you’ll need to know this, so keep on reading.

Here are the two main hair types of extensions:

Human hair: These are hand selected and carefully treated for pieces of equal length for the highest quality. Human hair is just like naturally grown hair as you can wash, blow dry, flat iron and even color dye them. They’re the best choice for an absolutely natural look and they’ll last for years if you take good care of them.

Synthetic hair: Cheaper but also lower quality, these hair extensions are a good choice for occasional use. They’re not heat proof and cannot be personalized further than their original style. This saves women the trouble of using hair tools to get their desired look.

So once you have your chosen hair, how can it be attached? Here are the most popular methods:

Weaving: This method is very common among African American women who prefer to wear their extensions for longer. Weaving is done by corn rowing the natural hair, and sewing the hairpiece into place. It will last for about 2 months but during that time your natural hair will be put under strain and can cause damage when the piece is removed.

Bonding: Not the best method around but still one of the most used. Bonding consists of the extensions being glued in which can be messy and can present problems when it’s time to unstick them.

Integration: This complicated hair extension method cannot be done unless a skilled professional is present. It involves a nylon web with many hair extensions which is fitted over the scalp and the natural hair is pulled through it so that it blends in with the synthetic fibers.

Clip in: These are the most popular, affordable and wearable hair extensions around as they can be attached without a professional. They’re readily available in a wide range of lengths, textures and shades, and you can attach or remove them swiftly and easily.

So whether you need to cover up your hair problems or if you simply want a makeover, buying the right set of hair extensions can really give your style a boost.
