Uk Heralds The Digital Era
TV sets usually used analogue signals to function. Analogue TV uses the capacity of the human eye to perceive or see moving images. What it does basically is bombard the eye with a rapid succession of images which the eye and the brain perceive as a moving image or picture. But as somebody has rightly said, change is the law of life. Analogue TV has neared its expiry period. The time has come for a digital switchover. A digital switchover in TV means a conversion in the type of signals used by the TV to transmit images. Analogue TV uses analogue signals. So a digital TV uses digital signals. One may wonder why this change is necessary when we are doing fine with analogue TV. There are various reasons for this change. Let’s compare digital TV with analogue TV. First, digital TV uses more pixels as compared to analogue. The more the pixels, the better is the picture quality. Digital TV thus gives an optimum and clear picture. Second, digital TV requires less bandwidth to be used. This means the same bandwidth can be used by the Government, wireless broadband and the cellular services. Also, more digital channels can fit within the same bandwidth. High definition television service which allows users to record programmes can also be provided through digital TV. Programme guides, subtitling of languages can also take place. Programme information and interactive channel menus can also be provided through digital TV. The sound quality is also much better in digital TV. Thus, in digital TV comparison with analogue TV, digital TV features far outweigh the features of analogue TV. In order to avail of all these excellent and useful features, all one needs to do is buy a digital TV pack which contains a digital set top box and an antenna. This will provide income to the sellers too. People who do not wish to buy new TV sets can make their old ones digital by setting digital box in them. All new televisions will already have a digital box built in them. There are three ways to receive the signal, aerial, broadband and satellite cable. The UK government has specified that the whole of UK will go digital by the year 2012. Each and every person who wishes to watch TV will need to have all the requisites of digital TV broadcasting fitted in their homes or offices. Digital UK is the organisation facilitating the switchover. Freeview is the aerial through which all TV’s will receive digital signals. This service is absolutely free. So get ready to undergo a revolution in the way you watch television. Get ready to go digital. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com Graham Worrall is author of this article on TV Packs.
