Understanding Adsense Keyword Data Using Kpi

Has anyone looked at their keyword research data and wondered what it all meant? Having figures for Adsense keyword demand is all well and good but what does it all mean? How can you relate the keyword supply figures you gathered with keyword demand? You can use Keyword Potential Index (KPI) to make sense of it all.

All the figures are extremely useful and they can give you an approximate ‘feel’ of what Adsense themes, topics and keywords could prove lucrative with Google’s Adsense scheme. But they are often difficult to absorb and difficult to pool into something cohesive and meaningful.

One useful way to relate Adsense keyword demand with Adsense keyword supply figures is to use the Keyword Opportunity Index (KOI). This method gives us a value that can be derived from both sets of data. It squares the figures derived for keyword demand (D) and divides the result by the supply (S) figure in the formula D^2/S.

It is very interesting figure that gives us an idea of how useful a particular keyword could be. The higher the value the better the potential opportunity of the keyword in question. It suggests that a keyword has a relatively wide demand to supply window, indicating that a lot of web surfers have an interest in the keyword and there is a comparatively small numbers of websites on the internet catering for the Adsense keyword. These keywords are potential Adsense goldmines.

But KOI can be confusing. The numbers can differ in magnitude and are often quiet difficult to interpret. Though it is an ideal way to collate and compare keyword data it can sometimes confuse an already complicated set of numbers.

The Keyword Potential Index (KPI) further refines the KOI value. It further condenses it to a value that is easier to digest and understand. Due to vast differences in KOI data, it is possible to condense the figures by converting them to their natural log values. This is then multiplied by 2 to give a simple, basic figure that can be used to easily gain an understanding of the potential worth of a particular keyword.

The KPI value can also be used to make an easy comparison between related keywords without getting lost within the bulkier and less easily digestible KOI values. KPI values of 1-3 are not particular good. Values in the 4-7 range have potential and most keywords above 7 are possible Adsense Goldmines.

If you are doing in depth keyword research, it is important that you condense the data down to KPI values in order to get the most out of your keyword research.
