Understanding Your Choices For Tv Programming

When it comes to TV programming in the home, many consumers feel that theirs is a bit lacking. If you do not take the time to make an in-depth comparison of the technologies and offers available, you can find that you are spending more money than you would like, but not receiving the programming you thought you were purchasing. What's available? What are the best current choices for your needs? Currently, there are three technologies capable of providing you with TV programming in your home.

Air-To-Ground – Once, this was the only method of getting any form of TV programming. You will find that your local area likely offers the three major TV networks, as well as one or two other networks. You might also have a public access channel. In all, this form of TV offers you a handful of stations for your enjoyment, but there is no charge to access them. Obviously, free is not always the best option and air-to-ground broadcasts are fading in popularity (and have been for decades).

Cable – Cable companies were once the obvious alternative to air-to-ground broadcasts. They provided consumers with much-needed diversity, for a price. Today, the cable companies continue to play the same role, offering access to a broader range of TV programming than what is found through free access, but charging hefty fees for the privilege of enjoying that programming. However, cable is threatened by the emergence and popularity of a third form of TV broadcasting.

Satellite – Satellite TV providers, while having been around for years, are relative newcomers to the scene. However, in just a few short decades, they have been able to break the stranglehold of the cable companies and woo away an enormous number of consumers. They do this through several means. First, satellite TV offers more channels than cable does. Second, they offer lower pricing than cable companies do. Finally, they provide access to cutting edge technology, such as high definition programming, interactive TV and ongoing efforts to expand their substantial channel lineup.

Obviously, satellite TV is the best option for the consumer seeking the widest range of channels, the best of modern technology and the best pricing. Now that satellite Internet access is a viable choice, it means that even more consumers will be making the choice to switch. The cable companies are understandably frightened of this tremendous shift, though they seem powerless to halt the advance of satellite TV.

Currently, satellite providers are able to offer more than twice the number of HD channels provided by cable (130 versus only 60) and that number is set to rise as new satellites rise into orbit. In addition, options such as interactive TV, exclusive sports programming such as NCAA Mega March Madness, NFL Sunday Ticket, NASCAR HotPass, Cricket Ticket and NBA League Pass far surpass anything the cable companies can field.

Satellite providers are the only option that providers you with the wide range of programming options that you need for enjoyment.
